Privacy Policy
Effective 16 October 2026WaoChat is a chat, calling, Moments and marketplace app developed in Vientiane, Lao PDR. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and how you control your data.
Data we collect
- Account data: username or phone number, display name, profile photo and language
- Content you send or post: messages, voice messages, photos, videos, files, locations you choose to share, Moments, comments and marketplace listings
- Call data: signaling data needed to connect calls (call audio and video are not recorded)
- Device data: notification tokens and basic technical data such as last-seen time
- Users you block and reports you submit
How we use data
- To provide chat, calls, Moments and the marketplace
- To deliver message and call notifications
- To prevent spam and fraud and to review reported content
- To fix problems and improve the service
Sharing
- We do not sell your personal data
- Data is stored and processed with providers needed to run the app, such as hosting and cloud providers (including Cloudflare for file storage and call relay) and the notification services of Google, Apple and web browsers
- Content you post publicly in the marketplace or Moments is visible to other users
- We may disclose data when required by law
Retention
- We keep your data while your account is active
- Messages you "delete" disappear from your device; messages you "recall" within 5 minutes are removed for everyone
Deleting your account
- You can delete your account in the app: Me → Settings → Delete account, or request deletion at /delete-account if you cannot sign in
- We delete your account data, profile photo, friends, group memberships, notification tokens, Moments, listings and their media
- Messages and files already delivered to others remain in their chats, labeled as a deleted account without your former name or phone number
Security
- All connections are encrypted with HTTPS
- Chat files are only accessible to participants of the conversation
Children
- WaoChat is not intended for children under 13
Changes
- We may update this policy; the effective date is shown at the top
